Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks now.
There have been times in the past where a cat might say that each day felt the same, that their regular duties of hunting, patrolling and sleeping left them feeling bored. Their repetitive days would leave them with a wish for something more. Owlpaw had felt similar feelings when he first joined Shadowclan as a kitten bound to the camp day after day, but now that the immovable winter had fallen over the forest, Owlpaw would do just about anything to go back to how things used to be. The life the Shadowclanners were living now wasn't a good one. The winter posed a constant threat to them on multiple sides. The snow clouds blocked out the sun with their constant downpour of snowflakes, sending the temperatures well into the negatives and driving all the prey deeper underground. Even if you were lucky enough to unearth a rodent den you were more likely to find your prey lifeless and frozen rather than scurrying about for safety. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ☆ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Owlpaw hadn't eaten anything in what felt like a week, but he couldn't be sure exactly how long it had been. He had all but given up hunting as his last pawful of attempts had left him empty handed and more exhausted than he was previously. Instead, Owlpaw closed himself off from his duties and spent most of his time in his nest, fighting to stay warm. Today, however, Owlpaw had forced himself to go outside for some fresh air. As soon as the young apprentice stepped into the clearing and felt the wind buffet his thinning coat, Owlpaw scrunched up his face in annoyance. He immediately considered turning around and retreating back into what little warmth his nest provided him, but he felt drawn to the clearing for some reason today. Instinctively, Owlpaw began to pad over to where the freshkill pile lay, his mint green eyes scanning the snow around him. To his surprise, Owlpaw actually spotted a small mole laying amongst a few other rodents. Should I really be taking anything? Owlpaw wondered to himself, his brows furrowing slightly in his contemplation. I wonder when Maplepaw last had a meal- or even Fallenstar. They both need it more than I do. Owlpaw slowly picked up the mole gently in his teeth, resisting the urge to bite into the frigid body. Instead, he turned around, his gaze sweeping towards the dens. He didn't recall seeing Maplepaw in their den when he left, but maybe Fallenfox would be inside the warriors den. 460 words | @froggy

MALE | gay | taken | 23 moons a n g e r y b o i > : (( Froglegs woke up in the den, his bones aching and his throat sore. Usually, his body was warmer when he woke up next to Fallenfox, but Froglegs was as far away from the tom as he could get in the den. He lay against the side of the den, slowly unfurling himself like a fern in newleaf. A yawn parted his lips while he stretched his legs as far outward as he could, a shiver running up his spine.
Eventually, he turned over onto his stomach and heaved himself to his paws, shaking out his fur and padding to the entrance of the den. Before he even set a paw outside, he could feel the draft coming in, sending snowflakes at his paws. Froglegs whipped his tail in annoyance, pinned his ears against his head and padded out. He really had no purpose of being out here; all of the food was frozen and tasted malnourished and he couldn't go and hunt, considering he was terrible in these conditions. So instead, he began to walk around the clearing, going in a circle until he arrived at the warrior's den again, then he followed his tracks a few more times.
His mind was racing. At some point, he stopped walking and sat down in the snow. He looked... broken, to say the least. Angry. Devastated. He was never good at keeping his emotions internal. Though, he would blatantly lie when someone asked if he was okay.
The wind threatened to knock Froglegs over as he sat in the snow, but he didn't let it. His teeth were grinding and his eyes were narrowed at nothing.
Fallenfox. How? How could you pick someone for deputy that isn't me? It doesn't add up. I was by your side ever since you, yourself, became deputy, and many times before that. Is that not enough for you to think I'm worthy to be your right-hand man? No, clearly not. Froglegs snorted.
Froglegs concluded that he wasn't going to speak to Fallenfox, only glare at him and his new mistress from afar to make him feel guilty for his poor, poor choice. Sure, it was childish, but no one ever said Froglegs had fully grown up. And yes, he was blowing this all out of proportion. And at this point, he didn't give a shit. He had to power through the wave of emotions he feels or else they would paralyze him. Fallenfox was his world and more, but now....
His thoughts were starting to turn more dark and negative, and it was starting to scare Froglegs. Over such a petty thing, something so small and stupid! It was too hard to snap himself out of this shitty mindset. Froglegs shook his head. He craved conversation, something to keep himself out of his mind and into the present.

I hope somebody's gonna hold my tongue.
As Owlpaw trudged through the snow that covered the camp quicker than Shadowclan could clear it away, the familiar dark fur of Froglegs emerged into Owlpaws vision through the wind and snow. He looked troubled, something Owlpaw was getting better at picking up on these days, but he didn't think too much of it. Everyone in Shadowclan was unhappy and starving after all. Mentally shrugging his shoulders, Owlpaw quickened his trot over to the Warrior while he still had some feeling left in his toes. Owlpaw still remembered the first time he met Froglegs. The two hadn't exactly gotten off to a good start, even if it was entirely Owlpaws fault. Strangers would always send him into a defensive tilt, it's just what happened when you lived alone for so long and adopted the 'you versus the world' mentality. Vaguely, Owlpaw had the lingering feeling that the last time he spoke to Froglegs, after Fallenfox told him the two had hooked up, Owlpaw had threatened him if he hurt his mentors feeling. Gods above, Owlpaw hoped he had been pulling his leg. His brain was mush from the lack of food and proper sleep these days, so he couldn't actually remember that well. He wasn't that protective over Fallenstar... was he?

Owlpaw came to a stop next to Froglegs, wondering if he'd notice he was there or not. Something that he noticed that came with starvation was the ability to completely zone out from the present like your mind couldn't just focus on one thing anymore. The light-furred tom dropped the mole he was carrying and looked over Froglegs. "Hey, you seen Fallenstar around?" Owlpaw meowed to make sure he captured the toms attention. They were mates after all, right? They probably spent a lot of time together, and he was pretty sure the firey red feline was still sleeping in the warriors' den due to the cold. It still felt odd on Owlpaws tongue to call his mentor by his leader name, but it was only appropriate due to the new weight Fallenstar had to carry on his shoulders. Even if he didn't have his nine lives yet, Fallenstar was all Shadowclan had. Owlpaw tipped his head, gazing at Froglegs with a curious, yet somehow still stern, expression. He couldn't help but get the feeling something more was going on in the warrior's mind. Owlpaw wasn't one to talk, though, as he felt like his own meltdowns were imminent these days. 412 words | @froggy

MALE | gay | taken | 23 moons a n g e r y b o i > : (( Of course, Froglegs was too deep in his thoughts to notice the younger tom pad up to him. Although when he spoke, it was like his voice rang in his ears and woke him out of his trance. He looked down at the tom, his gaze distant. His right eye twitched a few times before he narrowed his green orbs.
"Fallenstar?" He said sweetly, almost with a smile, before spitting, "I don't know, and quite frankly, I don't give a shit." He snorted loudly, showing clear discomfort at the mention of the orange tom.
Froglegs looked down at the younger tom, observing his features. His mind was so clouded with thoughts of anger that for a second, he didn't recognize the tom. When he did, he chuckled to himself, the end of his lips perking up in an amused smile.
Owlpaw. He looks so different now. Shadowclan must be changing him, last time I saw him he seemed to take his anger out on everyone. Now, he looks... soft. He bit the inside of his cheek and tried not to say something he'd regret. Recently, that's all he'd been doing- getting himself into trouble. And the last time they met they seemed to jump down each other's throats.
"How has clan life been treating you?" He meowed, trying to distract himself from his thoughts. "You look soft, to say the least." He chuckled.

Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks now.
To see Froglegs with a nasty smirk on his face was the last thing he expected. It caught him off guard and he was pretty sure he expressed that clearly on his face for a few good seconds. Wasn't this the same cat that Owlpaw had met in the city all those moons ago and intimidated even as the scrawny, unhealthy kitten he used to be? He felt a twinge of annoyance poke at him like a thorn in his paw pad even though the older warriors anger wasn't directed at him, not really. What does he mean he doesn't give a shit? Weren't they still together? Fallenstar hadn't told him anything of a breakup and he was the leaders' apprentice for god sake!
"Soft?!" Owlpaw perked up at what he regarded as an insult, sniffing indignantly in Froglegs direction. "If I were going soft I would have laid down and let the snow bury me alive. I don't know if you've forgotten, but I came to Shadowclan to survive." Owlpaw sneered at Froglegs, he really didn't want to argue with the tom, but what choice did he have? If he hadn't felt the need to defend himself, Owlpaw would rather put his energy into something besides petty arguments with a grumpy warrior.
"If anyone has gone soft, I think it's you. You're letting whatever put you in a sour mood cause you to act like a bitchy apprentice. What's wrong, drama queen? Are you jealous that Fallenstar has to devote more of his time to the Clan than you these days?" 262 words | @froggy

MALE | gay | taken | 23 moons a n g e r y b o i > : (( Froglegs narrowed his green orbs at the tom, watching as he blew up at him. This wasn't any different than the first two times, yet it was at the same time. The only noticeable difference between the two meetings was Froglegs wasn't about to cry.
He absorbed everything the younger cat was saying to him, thinking of something to say while he yelled at him. Suddenly, he felt himself about to burst. Any anger he had before was bubbling inside of him, growing. His thick, matted tail slapped the snow behind him, and his claws unsheathed and his ears were pinned.
"Hey, you seem to know everything, don't you now! Well, wake the fuck up, you don't!" He hissed, his voice scratchy and rough with sickness. "I just- How the hell do we always end up fighting? Maybe I don't try too hard to keep my cool, but you! You always jump to conclusions! Of fucking course I'm going to be upset that Fallenfox is going to spend more time devoted to the clan-- but that's none of your goddamn business."
Now he was trying to keep his cool, calming his voice, and all the while hunger gnawed at his stomach. "Do you not see? This clan is doomed to death, and we're all hungry and exhausted and hopeless. We all have different coping tactics, and if mine is acting like a bitchy apprentice, how bout you leave me be. Is that alright with you, owlpaw?" He meowed snidely and stared into his eyes with a plea for him to see his side of the situation. "I don't want to see my clan die off, I just wanted to help." He murmured almost to himself, staring through Owlpaw, and let his shoulders drop.
It was like an epiphany to him, the reason why he was so angry that Fallenfox had picked someone else for deputy was for a rather good one... He really only wanted to help in a big way to the clan but Fallenfox took that opportunity from him. Also, it just didn't make sense that he wouldn't pick his own mate for deputy. Now, that's what really set him off. His nose had started to run and so he brought a paw to his face and wiped the drippage away. The tom let out a defeated sigh and looked away.

I hope somebody's gonna hold my tongue.
The young tom couldn't resist the urge to roll his eyes as Froglegs practically blew up in his face. It should have been expected as this is how so many of their previous encounters went, something that Froglegs didn't hesitate to bring up, but Owlpaw hadn't been trying to start anything this time! "Hey, I have nothing to do with it this time," Owlpaw interjected almost immediately with a glare. "I asked you a simple question and you went and mouthed off."
Owlpaw let out an annoyed sigh as Froglegs continued his rant. He claimed Owl didn't know anything only to turn around and admit that Owlpaws guess had been right all along. Honestly, was he yelling just to be yelling? Whatever was bothering him, and based on previous statements Owlpaw assumed it was something to do with Fallenstar, had Froglegs all wound up and sent him into a tizzy.
Taking a deep breath before exhaling through his nose, Owlpaw tried to keep the sneer off his face. He was awful at dealing with emotional problems, yet he was too stubborn not to try. He had a nasty feeling it was driven by his curiosity to pry into Froglegs and find out what could turn a usually cheerful, yet nervous, tom into such a hot mess. The drama was bound to be entertaining.
"Alright, alright, calm the fuck down," Owlpaw meowed in a displeased tone, one of his paws held up in an attempt to silence Froglegs. "If you really want what's best for our Clan then you're going to have to accept some time away from Fallenstar so he can sort this shit out." Owlpaw meowed matter-of-factly. "You might be thinking, 'Oh, but Owlpaw! I love him sooo much, how can I bear to be without him?!'" Owlpaw, of course, said this in a higher pitched voice just to annoy Froglegs. "Listen, he isn't going to forget you exist just because he has to deal with making sure his Clan is as prepared to leave as they can be. If he doesn't prepare everything perfectly, none of us are going to survive this little journey."
Owlpaw used his free paw to dust the snow over the mole he had laid on the ground before pushing it over to Froglegs. "Now, take a fucking breathe and have something to eat. You're honestly a bitch when you're starving." 397 words | @froggy

FROGLEGS
why do you assume you're the smartest in the room? soon that attitude may be your d o o m
Froglegs was taken aback at the advice the tom was giving him. It wasn't like anything he would expect to come out of the hostile apprentice. But... it was nice.
The tabby tom never asked for advice much in his life because often people would tell him something he already knew. Though, at this moment, Owlpaw's words were his only lifeline tethering him to reality.
His tail flicked behind him with vexation, his ears perked so he could hear the young apprentice over the howling winds.
Taking a deep breath to cool himself off, he finally collected himself and all the anger was gone for the moment.
Everything the tom was saying was true, all of it, but he still felt indignant about the whole situation. A sigh fell from his mouth and a small cloud formed. Shaking his fur, Froglegs looked on at Owlpaw for many moments before dropping his gaze to the mole. It looked unappetizing and cold, but it was all they had.
Reluctantly, he obeyed his orders and got down in the snow and made himself comfortable before digging into the vole. After a few bites, he said, "I'm his mate, wouldn't you think he'd pick me to be by his side?" It was twinged with anger, his eyes narrowing. "That's the one fucking thing I won't get over."

Ooh woo, I'm a rebel just for kicks now. If Froglegs hadn't just calmed down long enough to collect his thoughts and drain the anger out of his face, Owlpaw would absolutely tease the older tom for bending a knee to him. It appeared some things would never change in this relationship, no matter how much or how little they tolerated each others presence. Owlpaw was just really damn good at getting Froglegs to shut up and listen to him. Too bad it never worked on, say, Bluepaw. The two of them could go at each other for hours.
Keeping his smug grin in check, Owlpaw settled on gazing over at Froglegs with a hint of amusement sparkling in his pale green eyes. There was just something about getting what you wanted that never failed to put Owlpaw in a good mood, even in the winter hellscape they were living in.
That was, at least, until Froglegs finally opened up and let what was truly bothering him tumble from his lips. Owlpaw wondered if he had even meant to say it.
"Is that what this has been about?" Owlpaw asked, a hint of surprise laced in his tone of voice. "What, are you afraid he picked an attractive she-cat just because he wanted some of her tail?" Owlpaw shot Froglegs a distasteful smirk before waving his paw to signify that he was clearly joking. "Face it Froglegs, Vipernose is thirty-five moons old, making her a good bit older than you I'm guessing, considering you were an apprentice when we first met. That would be like comparing my experience to yours, the older cat will always have you beat." Owlpaw finished his statement with a small roll of his shoulders, expressing how trivial this entire situation was. "He loves you, Froglegs, and him not picking you as deputy changes nothing. He has a Clan to think about, not to mention trying to guess what each and every one of us expects from him."
"The two of you really need to make up soon, I can't be expected to go into this emotional shit very often. I'm the apprentice, after all, you guys should be the ones to set my love life straight." 362 words | @froggy

FROGLEGS
why do you assume you're the smartest in the room? soon that attitude may be your d o o m
Though obeying Owlpaw's orders gave him satisfaction and amusement, Froglegs dismissed his behavior with a roll of his eyes. Within a couple of seconds, Froglegs had chowed down half of the mole, his hunger trying to convince him to take another bite. But, his brain was telling him to save it for Owlpaw. Slowly and reluctantly, Froglegs pushed the mole towards Owlpaw and listened to him with perked ears.
Froglegs shot a look of annoyance at Owlpaw as he joked, but he kept his words to himself, grinding his teeth frustratedly. The look disappeared as he waved a paw at him.
Then, as he went on, Froglegs let out an amused snort. If Fallenfox was into me, there is no way he would be into Vipernose. He thought, flicking an ear.
"Vipernose is the least of my worries." He rasped, waving his tail behind him.
When he finished his small speech, Froglegs felt like such a fool. Froglegs' gaze drifted from Owlpaw and he nodded faintly. Maybe he's right. The tabby tom sighed and pursed his lips. He really only needed to calm down and think about the whole situation.
"I guess I do need to chill." He flicked an ear and continued, "I don't blame him for picking Vipernose, I guess. I would get tired and need a break from my dumbass, too." He laughed halfheartedly.
"Maybe all this comes to show that I really should take a step back and just evaluate the situation." Froglegs murmured with a frown.

I hope somebody's gonna hold my tongue.
Owlpaw couldn't hide his smirk as he listened to Froglegs speak. It was rare that his advice, if that's what you could call it, actually got through to a cat! ... Granted, he did genuinely care for Fallenstar, and if that meant liking Froglegs too, Owlpaw thought he could handle it. Plus, if he could get Froglegs to stop moping about while he was around, that was just a bonus.
Owlpaw tried to hide any discomfort he felt as he took the mole from Froglegs when it was offered to him. He still didn't fully understand this whole... sharing meals thing the Clan cats frequently partook in, but his hunger from not eating in over a week shoved his nerves to the side. Trying to contain himself, Owlpaw neatly picked the meat off the bones while listening to Froglegs speak.
"To be honest with you, Froglegs? I don't think Fallenstar wanted a break from you." Owlpaw said as he chewed the last scraps of meat from the vole and began to push snow over it. "I haven't had much of a chance to talk to him lately, but I feel like he's always casting side eyes at you, waiting for you to come talk to him. I don't think he understands why you're upset with him, the big oaf." Owlpaw flashed him a cheesy grin before standing on his paws. "Anyway, I think you're seeing the bigger picture now. You're going to talk to Fallenstar soon and make up, alright? I'll talk to you later, Froglegs." Flicking his tail, Owlpaw turned and began to walk to the edge of the camp, determined to find some prey to make up for the little he ate. 283 words | @froggy
