Vipernose
The molly walked, not really paying attention to where she was going. She knew she needed to stay with her clan, that was all. She somewhat held her place at Fallenstar’s side, but as she got distracted with her thoughts, she began to fall behind. Vipernose ignored the curses from her clanmates as they walked into her slowly moving body, and their remarks only encouraged her to walk slower.
Why had Fallenstar chosen her? What was so special about her? Why hadn’t he picked someone else? What did he see in her that no one else did? What would make him go to the limit with his mate in appointing her? Why, why, why?
She looked up suddenly, her eyes instantly finding the orange tom. She had to talk to him. Who cares if they were on a journey that their lives depended on? They had downtime, and she was going to use it wisely. Her amber eyes held a determined shine and she gritted her teeth against the freezing air and pushed herself to catch up with the leader.
Her paws dragged through the deep snow, but they had gone numb a long while ago. Her muzzle was speckled white with frost and snowflakes, but she couldn’t feel that, either. All she could feel were her emotions, everything else was frozen. But she didn’t need everything else. Her heart and mind could tell her what to do just fine, the rest was just what was keeping her alive and moving.
Vipernose pushed past all the cats that had passed her, and this time when they snarled at her, she gave them a menacing glare. That sure shut them up. They had all seen the tabby’s bad side one too many times, and they did not want to see it again. When Vipernose was mad, she wasn’t just mad. She was furious. Especially if it was freezing and she was being forced to leave her home. No one wanted to see that Vipernose.
The deputy looked up to see Fallenstar’s tail in her face. Her eyes widened slightly; she hadn’t thought she had been walking that fast… She shook her head to clear it, then padded up next to the fox-pelted tom so that her stride matched his. Vipernose looked over to her leader, catching sight of his green eyes. She cleared her throat. “Fallenstar,” she said, quiet enough that only the other feline could hear. “I… I want to ask you some questions.” This was her first time speaking to Fallenstar since she was given the role of deputy, but she couldn’t seem to find the nervousness that any other cat would have talking to their leader. She only felt comfortable in his presence. She hoped that he would be in a good mood, and that he treated her better than everyone else had treated her in the past. She hoped he had the answers she wanted. She hoped that she could be friends with Fallenstar, that they could get along.
She hoped all of these would happen, but that was pushing her luck way too far.
