I said hey look ma, I made it. Owlpaw wasn't entirely sure how long he had been laying in the snow after him and Bluepaw finally parted ways. If he didn't know any better he'd say he had drifted off to sleep from exhaustion, the only problem being the fact that when he had finally opened his eyes he saw that the Clan cats hadn't even moved an inch. With a loud groan, Owlpaw hauled himself onto unsteady paws, outright ignoring how his muscles screamed at him to take a longer rest. He momentarily glanced into the divet he had been laying in, taking in the full sight of the bloody snow before giving himself a once over. He could feel the blood still running down his face from the gash Bluepaw had given him, and from the stinging in various other spots on his body, he'd guess he was bleeding in more than one place.
At least he had landed one good blow to that bitches face.
As Owlpaw looked around the bloody clearing where he and his half-sister had hashed it out, Owlpaw was suddenly reminded of what he had originally gone off about. That fucking rogue had bit Maplepaw! With wide eyes, Owlpaw snapped his head around to where the majority of the cats gathered, his mint green eyes scanning frantically over the heads of several felines as he looked for the familiar autumn hues of Maplepaws coat. He felt a knot in his chest loosen as he finally found the she-cat he was looking for, and even further relaxed when he noticed Fallenfox getting up to leave her side. He'd have to thank Fallenfox for checking on her later.
Tripping over his tired paws a few times, the tan tabby crossed the gap between them in a few long strides and immediately nuzzled his face affectionately against her cheek, unaware of the amount of blood he was smearing into her fur. When he didn't get an immediate reaction out of the she-cat, Owlpaw planted his feet directly in front of her and stared into her eyes. They seemed... different. Unfocused and glossy, like Maplepaw wasn't really here with him. "Maplepaw!" Owlpaw called out to her, his fluffy tail coming up to brush against her chin and maw. "Come on now, Maple, you're alright!" As he said this, Owlpaw gave her body a once-over to make sure she wasn't missing any fur or bleeding, allowing himself an inward sigh of relief when he noticed she seemed unharmed apart from her leg. "You're alright now, Fallenfox will take care of that son of a bitch now, okay? Can you hear me?"

Anything that is beautiful, people want to break.
Maplepaw's ears were roaring, and apart from the noise around her and the cold beneath her, she didn't really recognize where she was. As Owlpaw came up to her, pushing against her and mewing in her face, she blinked. The far away look in her soft amber eyes vanished and she smiled at him, for a brief moment unaware of the blood dripping from wounds covering his face and body. But only for a moment. "What happened to you?!" She hissed, her brow furrowing as she stood up and circled him. "It's probably been five minutes since I last saw you. You look terrible!" Tears filled her eyes, threatening to spill over. "What the hell Owlpaw?!" 116 words

I said hey look ma, I made it.
A look of surprise filtered across Owlpaw's face at Maplepaws sudden outburst. It wasn't like the usually upbeat molly to become angry, especially at him, but luckily it only took the city-born tom a second to notice the tears welling in her eyes. She was scared... for him. Happiness twisted Owlpaws heart like a snake coiling around a rat moments before it began to squeeze the life out of its prey. Huh. Owlpaw thought, fighting to keep his cool and not allow the smile onto his face in front of a crying Maplepaw. That's a new feeling.
Now that Maplepaw called full attention to Owlpaws appearance, it felt like the wounds littering his body flared up into a new kind of pain. Previously, the stinging had been sort of "drowned out" by Bluepaw forcefully kicking him in the balls, but now that Owlpaw fully came down from his adrenaline high he could feel every cut pulsing with his heartbeat. He couldn't show any pain though, not right now, not in front of an upset Maplepaw.
"Hey now, dry those wet eyes," Owlpaw said in a somewhat rough purr, unable to hide every ounce of his pain. "I'm not going to die or anything, I'm just a little beat up. I had to teach that rouge a lesson, you know? I couldn't have him thinking he was allowed to beat up my Maplepaw." Unaware of the implications falling from his lips, Owlpaw just gave his friend a soft smile. "Then Bluepaw had to stick her nose in my business as usual. But it's fine! We have Marigoldpelt now, remember? I'm sure she can patch these scratches up in no time." 279 words

Maplepaw's breath was shaky, and she tried her best to take in a normal breath and hold it, quieting her loudly beating heart. She held onto that breath until Owlpaw spoke once again, telling her why he did it. "Just because you won't die doesn't make me less worried. Look around you, Owlpaw. It's cold, there's no herbs, and everyone's weak and tired. And you decided to fight not one but two cats at the beginning of what could be a very long journey." The calico molly sighed, turning her head away from the tabby tom and looking out into the distance. "Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what you did to protect me.. But the combination of seeing you in such pain and the implications this has on your future ability to make your way through the journey.. It almost makes it not worth it."

I said hey look ma, I made it. Owlpaw felt himself frown at the tone in Maplepaw's voice. She was speaking honestly, from the bottom of her heart. Not once during Owlpaw's spats with Direstrait or Bluepaw had he considered the outcome of his fighting. He hadn't thought about the lack of herbs, even though this wasn't a new situation for Shadowclan. They had run out of herbs long before they left the camp and they certainly hadn't found anything along the way in this thick layer of snow!
Owlpaw glanced down at his chest, watching as the blood continued to drip from his face and roll right off his cheeks, staining the tan chest fur below a deep red. He was losing a lot of blood, Marigoldpelt was going to rip him a new one once she saw the state of him. That is if he didn't pass out from blood loss first. He was beginning to feel very tired.
"You're right, Maplepaw. I... I'm sorry," it was hard to apologize for defending the honor of Maplepaw and his own mother, but he knew it was what he had to do. He had stupidly put his own life in danger, and he wasn't out of the woods yet. He needed medical attention. "I'm too stubborn for my own good- my temper got the best of me. I wanted to make sure no lowlife rogue would ever put a paw on you again that I put myself in danger, even though you wouldn't have wanted that!" Owlpaw shook his head gently, only stopping when the movement made him sway slightly on his feet. "Fuck, I really need to find Marigoldpelt. Though if my wounds don't kill me, she probably will." 282 words

"You're right about that" Maplepaw sighed, her amber eyes shifting back towards him just as he winced at the pain of his wounds. The mousebrain. "Yeah, let's go see Marigoldpelt." She mewed, standing up and letting him lean on her as they approached the medicine cat. ``````` After seeing the medicine cat, they knew two things. There are no herbs to spare for idiots, and Owlpaw was one of those idiots. Giggling to herself, Maplepaw glanced at Owlpaw, who was now rolling in the snow to numb the cuts that littered his body. "Maybe you'll think before getting into two fights in a row next time."

I said hey look ma, I made it.
Owlpaw was relieved to leave Marigoldpelt and have a little more feeling in his legs. He didn't feel so top heavy anymore and was beginning to focus on his surroundings again. The cats who had undoubtedly watched Owlpaws fight had dispersed back into their own little groups. Finally, he and Maplepaw were alone again and out of the public eye.
"Oh please," Owlpaw meowed as he walked next to the autumn-hued she-cat. "We both know how my temper gets, I doubt I'll ever give a fight a second thought." Owlpaw eyed Maplepaw carefully, a small smirk playing on his lips as he waited for her reaction. "It must be that city blood in my veins, hm?" The tan tabby swatted at Maplepaw with his tail before trotting ahead, going back to there assigned spot at the back of the group. Now that the injured cats had been checked out, the two Clans were likely to get moving again.
"I know Marigoldpelt said you're alright, at least in the healing department, but are you okay?" Owlpaw questioned as his friend caught up with him. "You sort of spaced out for a while there, what was that all about? Am I going to have to keep an eye on you?" He asked seriously, his brow furrowed as he stared at Maplepaw. He wanted to hear what she had to say, despite the fact that he already knew he would keep a closer eye on her no matter what she said. At least for a little while. 254 words
