It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life And I'm feelin' Good... Dark gray and silver streaked through the white snow as a pink nose sniffed the stiff, chilly air. Where were the cats? The bobtail tom couldn't seem to pick up any scent of felines like himself. Maybe the group wasn't as big as he thought? His green eyes blinked in confusion for a moment when a strange smell hit his nostrils. It was definitely cats, but it had a weird tang to it; different than the cats in the city. It smelled like the forest and other mammals like mice and rabbits. Ash's eyes narrowed as he smelled the air again, deciding that he would follow the trail. Letting his cockiness get the best of him, the rogue strut through the snow, not giving a single damn about what could happen to him. Ash followed his nose as it led him to an old and nearly collapsed barn, where the scent was strongest. He wandered around for awhile, realizing that the mice that should've been there were completely gone... all that was left of them were some carcasses. Still being led by his arrogance, the gray tom padded out of the barn, ignoring his growling stomach. The lone feline eventually heard noises, and he slightly tensed. He didn't even consider it to be anything other than the group of cats that he had been searching for. Ash quickened his pace and found himself standing at the back of a large but quite small group of his own kind. He had found them! Finally! He was beginning to think all his hard work wasn't going to pay off, and that would not go well with his ego. He tried to stay low-key, but he found the task to be extremely hard. He couldn't help but wonder which cat would notice him first; which cat he could catch the attention of. Ash willingly let his eyes wander to all the she-cats, trying to figure out which ones weren't taken. He had to admit, there were some pretty females in this crowd. One thing that Ash did see was that no one in this group was showing their exhaustion. They all looked alive. The rogue's green orbs darted from side to side, attempting to catch any other cat's gaze. How had no one noticed him yet? Wasn't he irresistible? Or was he losing his touch? 392 words ✿ EDEL ✿

I said hey look ma, I made it.
Ever since the rogue attacks a few days ago, you could say Owlpaw had been just a little bit on edge. He didn't like wandering very far away from Maplepaw, so he didn't. The two apprentices went everywhere together. They walked side by side, slept back to back, and ate all their meals in each others company. Owlpaw was still convinced he could protect her while Maplepaw probably felt like she was protecting him. After all, the Shadowclan apprentice was still absolutely covered in cobwebs, their sticky surface acting as a protective layer to the still fresh wounds. The bleeding had fully stopped after the first few hours, but Marigoldpelt still insisted on keeping a clean layer of cobwebs on at all times until his body could begin to heal and fully close his wounds.
Due to his senses still working overdrive, Owlpaw would frequently scan the area to see if any cat were out of place. It was a bit easier when Owlpaw had been in the back of the group where he just had to make sure no one got left behind, but ever since the initial rogue attack Fallenstar had moved the two apprentices closer to the middle of the group, to keep them "safe". Truthfully, Owlpaw got the impression Fallenstar just didn't want to see him get into another fight.
It was during one of his routine scans that Owlpaw noticed a faint outline separated from the rest of the group, slightly behind the rest of them. He couldn't make out a distinct coat color or pattern, so he couldn't be sure it wasn't one of those stupid Windclanners lagging behind. He nudged Maplepaw to tell her he'd be right back before weaseling his way through the crowd and quickly strutting towards the strange feline.
"Hey, what the fuck do you think you're doing up here?" Owlpaw immediately jumped down the cat's throat as soon as he was in hearing range. Owlpaw was sure he wasn't much of a threatening sight, what with his shorter than average stature and the fact he was covered almost head-to-toe in cobwebs, but that didn't stop his voice from sounding strong and his eyes burning with determination. "Who the hell are you?" Owlpaw asked, immediately wrinkling his nose in disgust at the heavy city stench that wafted off him. "Another one of those damn rogues, huh? Great," the Shadowclan cat hissed as his claws immediately retracted from their sheaths. "I suggest you turn around right now before I alert the others to your presence. We don't welcome city trash into our group."

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life And I'm feelin' Good... The gray and silver tom suddenly noticed a figure making its way towards him. Now what did this feline want? Ash could sense the hostility emanating off of the other cat, and he did not like it. The other tom looked to be around Ash's age, a little younger. The rogue watched as the unknown cat got closer, and he opened his mouth to speak, but the younger feline beat him to it.
Ash narrowed his green eyes. How dare this cat talk to him that way? Weren't younger cats supposed to respect those older than them? The city tom disliked rudeness towards others, but apparently this tom had never been taught the saying, 'treat others the way you want to be treated'. "What the fuck do I think I'm doing?" Ash spat. "It looks to me like I'm following a group of cats. What the hell does it look like, cat?" The rogue scowled as he spoke the last word, not wanting to look weak. Ash took a moment to actually look at the other tom, realizing that he was completely covered in cobwebs. Clearly, this cat wasn't hard to pick a fight with.
But Ash didn't want to fight. He just wanted to talk this out and get it over with. He wanted to find some cats that were worth talking to and that were actually nice. "And why should I have to tell you who I am?" he retorted. "But if you really need to know, my name is Ash." He watched as the other cat scrunched up his nose at his scent, and that offended Ash. He did not stink!
Ignoring the tom's next words, he lifted his head higher and slightly puffed put his chest. "Don't think you can get away without telling me who the hell you are." The rogue snorted and sat back, waiting for the answer that he deserved. He had told this cat his name, now it was time to return the favor. Ash didn't do things for other cats for free; he always made sure to get his share. But instead of an answer, all he got was a threat.
"You've got to be shitting me," he growled. "You don't welcome city trash like me? Then tell me what those other rogues are doing with your group? Why do they get to stay but I don't, hmm?" Ash hated being told no. Scratch that, Ash would not be told no. No matter how hard this cat tried to shoo him away, he was staying. And that was final. 428 words ✿ EDEL ✿

I said hey look ma, I made it. "It looks like you want to get your ass kicked," Owlpaw said flatly as he gazed at Ash with narrowed eyes. He could tell this rogue was looking him up and down, probably taking in the state of his wounds, and Owlpaw mentally cursed at himself for not tearing the damn cobwebs off. At least with exposed wounds, he'd look even a little threatening.
"You'll answer all my questions because you entered my territory, and refusing to participate will only lead to one of us bloody and beaten in the snow, and I can promise you I've had more fighting experience than you have, pretty boy." Owlpaw growled lowly, his tail lashing in irritation. "You might think that I'm weak from my current physical appearance, but you don't know where I come from or what I've been through, and it isn't pretty. For all you know, the last cat to fuck with me didn't walk away like I did." Sure, it was bullshit. Owlpaw had never actually won a fight in his life, but Ash didn't know that and Owlpaw had often found success in talking a big game.
"The names Owlpaw, don't wear it out." Owlpaw answered cooly, turning his attention behind him when Ash brought up the fact that there were in fact rogues amongst them. The Shadowclan apprentice didn't let this deter him, however, as he fixed his mint green gaze back onto the speckled grey pelt of Ash. "Ah, so the little kitty has some brains in there after all." Owlpaw purred, his signature smirk working its way onto his face for the first time since their conversation began. "Those idiots proved to be rather useful to us, but I'd say they're more brawn than brains. A city slicker like you should know how useful a couple of brutes can be to do the heavy lifting. What do you have to offer to us, scrawny?" 319 words

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life And I'm feelin' Good... Ash scoffed at Owlpaw's words. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't not say what was on his mind. "Maybe I do want my ass kicked," he growled. "And it looks like all the other rogues in your group feel the same." It was true. The cats that the tom believed to be outsiders only stayed on the edges of the group, never really trying to intermingle with those on the inside. The felines within the group, however, stayed close together and showed close to no hostility like the tough and rowdy cats on the outskirts did.
The gray cat brought his kitty brows together, knitting them into a tight line and his lips pressed into one another in thought. "I'm sorry, your territory? I don't think this is anyone's territory, by the looks of it." Ash hated that the apprentice didn't seem to notice these things, but at the same time, he loved pointing out the obvious. It made him feel intelligent and worthwhile. "I'm sure you can beat me in a fight," the rogue continued. "And most others would believe it, too. They all think that actions speak louder than words; that's true for some things. But I tend to think words hurt more than actions... And I'm very good with words." Then with a sly smile, he added, "Thanks for the compliment, by the way. Lots of she-cats think I'm quite handsome as well. Though I never thought I'd hear it from a tom." Flustering always caught the ladies off guard, so why would it not work on a tom like Owlpaw?
"Oh, I'm sure you've had a rough life and think that that makes you more respectable than me," Ash deadpanned. "And I'm not going to argue with that. Though I would believe you're telling the truth about this last squabble of yours, something about you tells me you just want to scare me off. You're like me. Big ego, big bitch." The tom had never hesitated to call himself a bitch. He was inconsiderate and insensitive when it came to just talking to someone - that was practically the definition of the title. But when it came to his favorite hobby, he made sure to take great care in what came out of his mouth.
Owlpaw? What a silly name. Owls didn't have paws. No matter how much he wanted to, Ash wasn't going to piss the slightly younger tom off over such a stupid thing. He also decided to ignore the fact that Owlpaw had basically just called him an idiot. The smirk on the apprentice's face did nothing to make the rogue second guess himself, either. "A city slicker like me might not be as well built as they are, but I do have some talents... And scrawny is not one of them." The dark and light gray cat raised an eyebrow, lifting a paw and holding it pad-side up under his chin. "If you really have to, you can go get permission from the real leaders of the group to let me join, but I don't think that's necessary. If you let me tag along, maybe you can find out what I'm good at." Ash paused. "Like common sense, for example." If any cat had made a blow like that to his own ego, he'd be all over them in an instant.
He lowered his head slightly so he could look Owlpaw straight in the eyes. "Honestly, I think we could get along pretty well. We have some similarities and some differences, and I think we'd make a good pair of friends. But of course, only if you can find some acceptance under that hard shell of yours." 615 words ✿ EDEL ✿

I said hey look Ma, I made it. Not yet wanting to show his amusement at this whole situation, Owlpaw kept his face stoic apart from raising his eyebrows ever so slightly at Ash as he continued to talk. The tan tabby had to bite the inside of his cheek to prevent himself from letting a smirk slip when the rogue tried to make a witty comeback. There wasn't anything 'badass' or 'threatening' about saying "Hey, maybe I DO want my ass kicked!"
"I guess my original suspicion was right, then. You really are a submissive bitch, pretty boy. All you city cats just want to be beaten and abused, huh?" Owlpaw had no qualms whatsoever in teasing another cat, even if it were in a sexual way. In fact, the Shadowclanner felt so at ease that he sat down, curling his fluffy tail around his paws as he fixed his eyes on the ashen tom in front of him, staring at him through playfully lidded eyes. His signature smirk had finally made its way onto his maw, which was usually followed by Owlpaws more... snarky and sarcastic comments. He was in a good mood, to say the least.
Owlpaw gave a low chuckle as Ash thanked him, his mint green eyes practically sparkling with mischief. "You really aren't the quickest bunny in the forest, are you? And here I thought I was the only one who dared to talk down to such a strong city tom like you." Owlpaw tilted his chin down, similarly to how a flirting molly would if she were trying to appear sweet and innocent. "Those dumb bitches just don't know what they're missing, right? You're just such a catch!"
For the first time since interacting with Ash, Owlpaw genuinely laughed when the loner referred to the both of them as big ego, big bitch. "You're definitely more observant than those other idiots," Owlpaw meowed with a gesture to the small group of rogues lingering behind the Clan cats. "In fact, I think you could make a great Shadowclan warrior if you didn't go around trying to whore yourself out. I've seen a molly give a tom like you a good smack before, they won't be impressed by this 'boyish charm' you think you have."
"Common sense, huh?" Owlpaw grinned at Ash, one that showed a little more teeth than necessary. "I wouldn't call walking up to a group of thirty or more cats common sense, but you can keep trying to inflate your own ego if you want to." Owlpaw meowed bluntly, tilting his head slightly to fix Ash with an enticing stare. "You really aren't as good with your words as you think you are... maybe your mouth is good at other things?"
Flicking his tail under Ash's chin, Owlpaw chortled as he got to his paws. "So, do you even want to join Shadowclan? Or are you only here to get a free ride out of the city like those other lowlives? I'm only asking because I could introduce you to Shadowclans leader, Fallenstar. It's almost like you could say we're pretty close." This wasn't the first time Owlpaw had hinted subtly at Fallenstar being his mentor, and it was unlikely to be the last. What could he say? Being the leaders favorite had its perks, and one of those perks was Fallenstar trusting his judgment, and Owlpaw could see himself vouching for Ash. After all, he wasn't wrong when he said they were rather similar in personality. 578 words

It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life And I’m feelin’ Good... Ash did not reply to Owlpaw. He only watched as the apprentice simply sat in front of him, seeming to be perfect comfortable and at ease. But that smirk...
The rogue listened as the younger cat's mouth went on and on and he tried to imitate a she-cat. He raised an eyebrow at his comment about being observant. "Maybe you don't think I'm charming, but a lot of ladies seem to. And if it won't work on them, maybe I can change."
Ash hadn't even realized what he was saying until the words were out. He would change? What the hell was he saying? Did he really believe he could drop his love for females so he could join this clan?
Maybe...
The tom glared at the grin on Owlpaw's face. What an insult. Well, it didn't matter what the apprentice said. Ash could think what he wanted. It would be stupid if these cats didn't allow the right to opinion.
The outsider decided to make a bold move. "I would say I'm interested in joining your clan, Owlpaw. Maybe we will need to go talk to your leader." Ash had decided. He did want to join ShadowClan. He had nothing back home, anyway. Hell, he couldn't even call it home. It was just the city. There was nothing there that meant anything to him. He wanted a family, a place to call his nest. He was done with being alone. 241 words ✿ EDEL ✿
