Sugar Cube
sugar, spice, and everything nice. That's what she was made of.
Ever since Twopaw, a Windclan apprentice, had found Sugar Cube along the edge of the forest, the pure white she-cat had tagged along with her as the Clans journey continued. It hadn't taken Sugar Cube very long to come to terms with the fact that her chances of finding her way home were slim to none, and she quickly found herself faced with only two options to move forward with. She could abandon everything she'd ever known and tag along with the Clan cats, or she could trek through an endless winter trying to return to her human's house and likely perish in the cold.
It had been a tough decision to make, of course, but Sugar Cube had felt some comfort in learning that the two remaining Clans were in the same predicament as her. They too were forced to leave their home of many generations to go somewhere they had never been. It made her choice a little easier, but... Sugar Cube had yet to be fully accepted into the clan.
Twopaw assured her that the Clans needed more helping paws, but it left Sugar Cube at a bit of an impasse. Which Clan would she choose? Should she join Windclan, just because she already knew Twopaw? She didn't really understand the differences between the two or why the obviously struggling Clans didn't just combine forces and unit under one name.
In order to pick a 'side', as it were, Sugar Cube needed to become educated. She couldn't just play a game of eeny meeny miny moe to decide which clan to join, she needed to know what and who she was fighting for. Twopaw had assured her Clan life wouldn't be easy, so Sugar Cube needed to be confident in her choice.
With a new plan of action, Sugar Cube began observing both sides equally. She watched how cats communicated with each other, and more importantly, who these 'high ranks' of each Clan were. Twopaw had pointed out both of the leaders to her, a fat golden tabby named Mushroomstar, and a tall, skinny feline with a coat as bright as a fox who went by the name of Fallenstar. These two toms would be the most important factor in picking which Clan to join.
It had been confusing to gage the two felines personality without directly interacting with them, but Sugar Cube didn't want to approach them uninformed. She wanted to do this correctly, to ensure she wouldn't be chased off, especially now that they were so far out from the city. Her decision hadn't been fully made until the other day, directly after the event that was the fox attacks.
Only one leader had made a real effort to protect his Clan. Only one leader had put himself in danger to prevent another cat from suffering potentially fatal injuries. Only one leader had avenged one of his Clanmates deaths, despite both sides suffering a casualty. Fallenstar was the obvious choice. If Fallenstar was willing to risk his life for his Clan, Sugar Cube could risk her life for him.
It was decided.
The very next morning, Sugar Cube rose bright and early from the small divot she had dug in the snow to act as her nest for the night and immediately started in the direction where Shadowclan had settled to sleep. The long fur on her tail curled at the tips and bounced with her movements, her pale amber eyes determined to locate the bright red feline she had been observing for so long.
For the first time, Sugar Cube made herself truly known to the Clan cats as she walked amongst them, not an ounce of fear in her stance as she walked calmly up to Fallenstar. As soon as he noticed her presence, Sugar Cube picked up her right paw and bowed, lowering the front half of her body closer to the ground for a brief moment before returning to her full height. At ten months old, Sugar Cube was nearly her full height. The only thing that made her stand out from the rogues around them was the pink, faux leather collar around her neck and the rose-gold metal tag attached to it.
"Greetings, you are Fallenfox, are you not?" Sugar Cube meowed in a friendly tone. "My name is Sugar Cube. I stumbled across your group about a week ago, but you'll have to forgive me for not making myself known sooner. I wanted to be fully prepared to meet you."
