RavenFoot sit off on his own, his ears pricked to every little sound. His kit had recently started feeling sick, though she claimed to be fine. He flicked his ear at each voice, listening just in case Sootkit started wailing. He barely even noticed his tired, stressed look as he sat still, one of his legs quivering a bit with ignored pain at the pressure being pur upon it. "Just a bit longer..." he murmured to himself, "I can wait for her..." L

She who is brave is free.
Thank the Gods for the warming weather! Bravepaw thought to herself as she padded around Shadowclans makeshift camp with her tabby striped tail held high, humming a soft song to herself as she walked. There had been several nights where the taupe she-cat thought she might not wake in the morning and see the sun crest the mountains behind them, and the thought that after a long journey where she had fled the city, ran from dogs on more than one occasion, and even managed to get accepted into one of the fabled wild cat Clans, the possibility of her life getting cut short from something as delicate as a beautiful snowflake had haunted not only her dreams but her waking moments too.
With each new morning, the weather warmed, and the further the Clans traveled south, the thinner the snow under their paws got. It appeared that their last cold night was finally behind them, and Bravepaw couldn't be more cheerful. With the sun shining down on her back, the young apprentice felt rejuvenated, and for the first time since she had been accepted into Shadowclan, her future looked bright. As Bravepaw passed a speckled grey tom, she stopped. She shot a glance over her shoulder and observed the way the toms sat rigidly, his spine as stiff as a solid pine tree, coupled with the constant shaking of his leg. As the she-cat rounded the tom to face him directly, she was met with a look of... despair? Pain? She wasn't quite sure, she just knew that something was wrong.
"Good morning," Bravepaw meowed in a friendly tone, trying to catch the toms attention. "I'm Bravepaw, a new Shadowclan apprentice." She introduced herself just in case the older tom didn't know her name. Things were hectic around here, and Bravepaw certainly didn't know who he was! Her mother had taught her that it was best to be polite and ladylike in every situation, as first impressions were important. "Is everything all right?" 334 words

'RavenFoot" the tom greeted back, "Everything's fine... just trying to listen for my kit, SootKit" he explained slowly, opening his eyes. Well, eye. The one on the right was simply an empty socket, the eye itself having been popped long ago. "Don't you worry yourself with some old tom, BravePaw" L

She who is brave is free.
Bravepaws brows creased as a worried frown overtook at the corners of the she-cats mouth. The speckled tom said that everything was okay, but deep in the blue pools of his eyes, Bravepaw could still see the dread he tried to hide. Perhaps it was because she herself was a cat who didn't like to talk about things that worried her. Bravepaw liked to relieve her friends of stress, not add to their problems with her own concerns and inner battles.
"Oh?" Bravepaw meowed with a worried, yet curious, tone. "Is there something wrong with your kitten? Is there anything I can do to help?" All but ignoring Ravenfoots suggestion of "not worrying himself with an older tom," Bravepaw settled herself in front of the deputy's mate and curled her tail lightly around her thin frame. "As a member of Shadowclan, isn't it my duty to help my clanmates where I can? It would be no trouble, honestly, it would be my pleasure to be of use to you and your family." 172 words

RavenFoot hesitated a moment, giving a small smile, "Well, wouldn't you make a fine leader one day" he commented on her eagerness to help, "Or a med-cat, either way" The grey warrior flicked his tail and tried to sit up straight, his limbs aching but he tried to ignore it, "My kit.." he hesitated, his smile fading fast, "She's... well..." 'dying' flashed into his mind but he refused to let the word slip from his mouth, "She's sick is all, and with how weak and tiny she already is, it's got me worried...." he sighed, "I'm just tryin to stay just a little ways away just in case she starts cryin for me or her mother" L

She who is brave is free.
"That's very kind of you to say," Bravepaw replied with a respectful dip of her head, even if she didn't share the same opinion as Ravenfoot. The young she-cat didn't know what responsibilities came with being a leader or a medicine cat, and she honestly didn't think she was suited for either job. After all, Bravepaw was born an outsider. She didn't share lineage with these cats or their fabled ancestors, so why would she ever rise to either position? No, Bravepaw was content to be the best apprentice she could be, and one day, become a fantastic warrior, and an even greater mother. Bravepaw only wished for the simple things in life.
Bravepaw watched with a somber look in her eyes as Ravenfoot finally gave in and told her what was bothering him. A sick kitten, his sick kitten. That was something no parent ever wanted to be faced with, and Bravepaw felt her heart clench in sympathy. "I'm very sorry to hear about your kitten, Ravenfoot," Bravepaw meowed with an empathetic tone. She knew she couldn't help the young she-cat, for she knew nothing of medicine. Instead, Bravepaw fixed Ravenfoot with a look full of understanding and kindness.
"Tell me about her. What is she like? I bet she is a lovely, kind she-cat." Perhaps if she couldn't heal Ravenfoots kit herself, she could elevate his sadness by allowing him to remember. 234 words

RavenFoot paused a moment, the grey tom thinking about how his daughter was. It had been a while since he'd gotten to really speak with her, with her sick she didn't talk too much. He nodded to himself, "She's strangely happy, despite all that has happened... she's.. well... a bit full of herself, but she's nice enough.. really playful.." he smiled subconsciously, "Sometimes I think she doesn't really forget she can't run, she just wants to so she tries anyways" L

When Ravenfoot began to speak about his daughter, Bravepaw smiled gently at him and nodded her head along with his words. Even as he spoke of her condition that prohibited her from being able to partake in the basic functions of cat life, the taupe she-cat made sure to never let her smile break. She wanted to be warm and inviting, to help bu Ravenfoot at ease. He needed to rest both his body and mind, but while physically resting was damn near impossible while still on their journey, Bravepaw would try to ebb away his fears.
"She sounds like a very strong kitten," the she-cat purred. "She has made it this far, Ravenfoot, and the air grows warmer as we continue down the mountain. The goddess looks down on your kin, and I fully believe her to be merciful." Turning her head to gaze at the forest around them, Bravepaw swished her tail and brushed it across a cluster of exposed foliage. "Spring is a time for new life, and I truly believe your kitten will make a full recovery." 181 words

The tom kept a smile, though in his head he was scoffing at her mentions of a 'merciful goddess'. Merciful? Really now? All the cats that have died on the journey, his kittens that died in a tornado, everything out to kill him and his family. The risk of him losing the love of his life... But he didn't say anything. No way in hell was he going to do anything that might wipe away the cute she-cat's smile. "I hope so... if she's made it this far she'll be ok.. I've seen lots of cats trying to help her along" L

"I'm glad to hear that," Bravepaw purred in response to being told that many cats in Shadowclan were trying to help the young kitten. "With Ferntrail in our ranks, paired with the new sprouts of life in the forest, our..." she paused, searching her brain for the right word before smiling once again. "medicine cat should have no trouble healing your little one."
As Bravepaw rose to her delicate paws, the young feline touched her nose briefly to Ravenfoots own. "I look forward to meeting her soon. Once we settle into our new home, she'll be exploring alongside the other kittens in no time. Take care, Ravenfoot." With a swish of her tabby striped tail, Bravepaw was padding away from the older tom, melting away into the crowds of cats as they started to regather themselves to continue their journey. 140 words
