An Unwelcomed Realization
Plot rp- CLOSED!
Almost two and a half moons ago, fat snow-laden clouds rolled into the mountain range the four clans called home. In the beginning, it was if this leaf-bare would be no different from any that came before it. The clans were prepared for food to be scarce and they knew how to fight off nippy weather and occasional grumpy day, but in the end, they would survive. With a few good medicine cats, leaf-bare would be nothing to worry about! This year, however, as the snow began to fall in heavy flakes and blanket the ground below, the clouds seemed to stand still above them. The sun was banished from the sky, not allowing even its warmest rays to offer life in the forest relief from the cold season. Things only got worse the deeper the cats got into the winter season. The dark clouds supplied what seemed like an endless downpour of snowflakes that quickly began to pile up, making even the most basic tasks difficult to perform. Plants began to wilt and die due to the cold and lack of sunlight, offering medicine cats and herbivores a new challenge to work with. Prey would eventually stop coming out of their dens and burrows, their skinny bodies succumbing to the cold and perishing along with the plants that once gave them life. As the Clans food stock began to deplete, cats would begin to go hungry. Try as hard as they might, warriors and apprentices would come back from a days-long hunt with few catches, if anything at all. The river that fed Riverclan would soon freeze over entirely and cut off their main food supply, and soon, Riverclan would be the first to Fall. Oblivious to Riverclans struggles, the other Clans tried to combat with their own. Without medicine, greencough would quickly flare to life within Thunderclans walls. They were used to an abundance of greenery that usually supplied them with herbs even in the worst conditions, and without them... there was nothing their medicine cats could do. Families watched in agony as kittens and elders began to die off, followed quickly by the weaker apprentices before spreading to the warriors and, eventually, the high ranks. With two clans erased from the forest, what little remained of the last two Clans would begin to notice the small oddities that signaled the mass extinction of the forest and its inhabitance around them. Even with all the snow, a well-trained warrior would be able to pick up on scent borders not being renewed like they should be. As the last few Clan cats began to lose their high ranks along with their beloved family members, the remaining cats would rally their groups and both come to the decision that they need to search out the other three Clans and see if anyone were still alive. Sadly, Shadowclan and Windclan, along with a few sole survivors of Thunderclan and Riverclan, would leave the forest together to search for a new home. This is the story of that very journey and we're about to start at the beginning. The two leaders, Fallenstar and Mushroomstar, lead their respective groups to the forest's edge where they just so happened to bump into one another... ulla

--The dawn of the morning of the journey was rather busy. Mushroomstar, along with the help of Fawnstep, planned out an exact plan to escort all queens, kits, apprentices etc, across the city in a timely and safe manner. Of course Mushroomstar had to force everyone to go to bed early and those who didn't lived to regret it when they were woken up before the sun even rose. Or more like a few hours before it rose.
The large group of windclan cats walked through the shadows of the fading night to a pile of dumpsters which Fawnstep had declared one of the best spots for breakfast. Of course they had to get there before any other cats. Only about two alley cats were there when they showed up, but it wouldn't be an over statement to announce them as scaredy cats when they saw the sheer size of the group approaching. Breakfast had to be within the next hour before most of the twolegs woke up to get in their monsters. Even at this time of night monsters still roamed but were few and far in between.
After everyone had breakfast, the next phase of the city escape began. Mushroomstar assigned only the fastest and strongest to carry cats such as kits or young apprentices across the thunderpath. They of course went first. Eventually the apprentices went next and then the warriors. Mushroomstar being the last to cross the thunderpath to the other side. Though stepping on the thunderpath left chilling reminders of what he had done on such a thing only days ago.
The more 'easy' part was done, if one could call it easy. Really Mushroomstar was worried disaster would strike them like it always did with his blood around. But nothing came. He gained to the head of the pack leading his old clan out of the city. It wasn't until they reached the edge did he make everyone stop. He had agreed to send a feline to warn shadowclan. That feline hadn't returned, it was unknown if they even made it or if shadowclan was alive, or coming. He waited. Time ticked by and the sun was finally coming over the earth. Mushroomstar was about to forget the clan and lead on without them until the corner of his icy blue eyes he saw the crowd. Relief swelled over him, his family would not meet a frozen demise after all. He meowed at windclan "It seems Shadowclan got our message. Now I want to remind everyone to be friendly, but not too friendly. I don't want any loyalty being tested..." He eyed over at Bluepaw. --

|| FALLENSTAR || || LEADER OF SHADOWCLAN || Do I look lonely? || W O R D S || 1,357 || Theme || || "Death of a Bachelor" || || P!ATD ||
Fallenstar and his clan had been traveling for around two days by the time that the WindClanner arrived to discuss the other clan's situation with the remaining hoard of ShadowClan. Although he had not learned the feline's name, those luxuries were not necessary in a situation such as theirs at the time. And he had known that the cat knew who he was as he had referred to him as Fallenfox and he did not yet even attempt to correct him on his naming situation.
Snow was falling still and the wind by now had grown more harsh and bitter due to the loss of trees as they began venturing nearer to the city outskirts. Now, twoleg nests were still few and far between but the distance between each one was continuing to grow a few fox lengths shorter with each nest they passed.
He could not help but feel slightly put off at what was happening within his own clan and his own inner turmoil. He had truly figured that, even being flanked by the WindClan stranger and Vipernose, that Froglegs would be close beside him too, but alas his mate was sticking at a steady pace towards the back of the group with Owlpaw, Maplepaw, and a select few other felines. What in the blessings of StarClan had put that brown tabby off so much. It had been three days since the announcement of deputy and the only time Fallenstar had even been in the same vicinity of his mate was during sleeping arrangements which now with the journey and walking, had not been a common occurrence.
He had at least figured as they got closer to the city, Froglegs would venture nearer to him, but that did not occur and no longer could he only focus on himself and his own worries. Fallenstar needed to focus on his clan and everyone within it.
It was odd for Fallenstar to be where he was. He had never felt the need to go to the city or even out of the forests that he had grown up within and every moment that moved by slowly, the leader could only help but internally groan to himself. These twolegs and their ways of living bothered him. Why would a creature want to spend their entire life bottled and boxed up within wooden planks and see through platters?
Speaking of those platters, lights flickered in and out of focus as twolegs begun milling about within their nests and as the clan passed one house in particular he couldn't help the look of disgust that crossed his muzzle when he spotted a large, overweight tabby perched inside one of those platters as a clattering could be heard from inside the nest. Nest cats had always put him off; for what kind of cat wanted to live locked up and fed stale bits for their years on this world? In a way, Fallenstar was fascinated by what the minds of a twolegs feline consisted of. Maybe their wiring is off...like an elder who goes senile with greencough.
The green eyes of the tom skittered back and forth across the approaching skyline but the sun was no where to be spotted. Figures. With the leafbare as it is and the clouds hovering above our skulls like moss in the swamp trees, no way would we spot the rays glittering in the sky above. Not even SilverPelt has been spotted for moons now so why would it be any better during the day?
There! What was that? In the distance!
Fallenstar felt his heart jump in his chest and he almost halted but knew he had to keep moving. If he stopped now, what would his clan think?
In the soft essence of twoleg lights on porches or from their platters stuck on their nests, the large, orange tom could make out a figure standing tall in the distance. Picking up speed to match the WindClanners pawsteps, he didn't even consider how tired his clan mates may be. This was it! They had found WindClan! No one should be feeling tired now!
The wind ruffled his long pelt but he stood sturdy and unnerved by the biting cold, not a single shiver running down his spine as the cats of ShadowClan closed in on their WindClan counterparts. Was that? No. Could it be?
"Mushroombelly?" Fallenstar's voice was deep and gritty but still held a glint of surprise. What was this big oaf doing here? He had heard that Mushroombelly had ventured and made his way to WindClan but he had never truly confronted this tom that stood before him. He had heard stories that passed form one cat to another and many rumours hung loosely in the air about this tom but the ShadowClan feline had never paid much mind to them.
"Aye, WindClanners. It is truly a sight for sore eyes to discover fellow felines within this leafbare." He gazed around but did not see a certain familiar pelt and he frowned before speaking lowly. "Where is Whitestar? Is he behind? Have you ventured here to meet us without him?"
His questioning tone, although not filled with a single hint of worry, did not play well with his current thoughts. Had he never made it this far? Did Whitestar perish just a Pumpkinstar had; a poor, simple victim to the cold, his frozen body scampering through Fallenstar's mind. He decided to address this topic at the current moment then.
"Has he perished? I shall tell you with great sorrow that Pumpkinstar has met his fate. He suffered many times through one single night and was unable to continue on." With that he knew that the cats of WindClan knew that the leader of ShadowClan was no longer with this world. "Therefore, with my position where it was, it was and is my loyal duty and right to take charge of what is now mine. You," he paused his deep words and his emerald eyes met Mushroombelly's and he scowled before continuing, his vowels dripping with elongation and his voice deep and gritty, "shall have the utmost respect to refer to me now as my rightful title. No longer am I Fallenfox. But alas, fellow felines, you shall address me as Fallenstar."
He let his eyes wander before he called up the molly beside him. "And this is my blessed deputy, Vipernose. She has shown great earnings of this title and I believe that she shall do well in this position."
Fallenstar seated himself on the ground now and gazed forward at the clan cats before him and sighed. "Now, with that, who is here, leading you all? Mushroombelly, you must confront this and inform me as I truly would like to know. Has you, your clan, a leader? And as such, a deputy too?"
Gazing back to ShadowClan, the orange tom smiled and then continued on. "And I suppose with this journey, we too shall not only need a leader and deputy of your clan, but you shall have a medicine cat, shan't you?" With these words, Fallenfox smiled and caught the eye of the female that was seated nearby behind him and he called her forward.
"To inform you all of this topic, I call forward my medicine cat. This is Marigoldpelt. She will be of great help on this journey and what she does not know, she shall know of from me. I have already promised to help her when she needs it ad I know she too, will help me when I need it."
He knew that Marigoldpelt would do well, for StarClan had come to her in her slumber only a few nights back and he was happy that she trusted Fallenstar enough to confront and confess this to him. This would be the first time that any ShadowClanners had also heard of this new announcement but he knew too, that they would accept her with open paws.
He turned back to Mushroombelly and the rest of WindClan before letting his gritty, drawling voice float and drift its way into their ears. "Now, what of WindClan shall I know?"

Marigoldpelt
The short tailed feline had mildly slept the night before the travel, worrying about what lay ahead. Her previous nights had been no better. After the dream sent by StarClan choosing her as the next medicine cat, she could only fret about the trust now placed in her, both from Fallenstar and her Clanmates. Thankfully, the leader had kept it quiet for now, but still she worried about the huge responsibility. She also worried about the drastic changes to the herbs once they found their new place to live. Her only hope was that the medicine cat of WindClan would share guidance with her on their travels.
Marigold fretted all night and all morning, weaving in and out of her clanmates as they traveled; checking elders to kits quickly and frequently whilst also looking out for any herbs along the way. StarClan had gifted her some knowledge of the more common herbs, but she dreaded her first case of whitecough. Still, on the outside her worry did not show; merely a pleasant smile and aroma filling her clanmates with enthusiastic mews every so often to keep up their spirits.
The pace quickened through the city and even more so at the sight of other cats in the distance. Marigold narrowed her eyes and let out a short huff, scurrying to the back to help along the young kits and elders so they weren't left behind. It wouldn't harm to let up the pace a little. We'll get there eventually..She thought to herself, a cross expression appearing on her face. Her own step matched the slowest cat, not fussed about being so far behind. Once they had caught up with the group, again she wove in and out of them, checking them over quickly. She glanced cautiously across to the group of WindClanners, almost glad to see they were as starved as themselves.
So the city wasn't better after all...
Her ginger fur blended into other clanmates fur as she found herself to the front, catching Fallenstar's words before they were washed away with the wind. Narrowing green eyes, she tried to single out any cat in particular, but her mind was at a loss. She only hoped the other medicine cat was as nice as she was. Prancing forwards at her name, her little bobtail wiggled and a proud smile etched onto her face.
Speaking in a cautious tone, she directed her words towards Mushroombelly, gaze strong and unwavering.
"Hello, I'm Marigoldpelt. StarClan told me to meet with WindClan's medicine cat. Could you point them out for me, please?"

--Well Mushroomstar wasn't expecting Fallenstar to address him as if he wasn't worthy enough to be a leader. He was in the front of the group, was that not indication enough? No cat by his side or ahead of him. It was purely him. His icy blue eyes glinted in annoyance at how Fallenstar was speaking to him. This cat was daft.
Mushroomstar rose a paw, a few toes sticking out as he slanted his head a bit to match the type of sass and annoyance he was feeling. He meowed "The name is Mushroomstar. Do make sure to use it instead of my dreaded warrior name." He put his paw down and gave a bitter laugh "There was never a Whitestar. Only a Whitedream. He didn't make it to the moonpool to get his nine lives, I found him dead on the thunderpath, that's when I knew I had to find windclan, thus I have become their leader once more to lead them out of these troubling times.." When Fallenstar mentioned Pumpkinstar's death Mushroomstar nodded and meowed "Yes yes, I heard this all from the angel known as Bluepaw..." Of course the angel part was full of sarcasm. He could see his family in the back on the shadowclan pack. His eyes meet with Hollowdusk but cut off when Raccoonleap blocked Mushroomstar's sight to speak to the tom. Mushroomstar snorted a bit and put his focus back on the new shadowclan leader.
How entitled Fallenstar sounded telling Mushroomstar to address him as Fallenstar. The two had no ill will but he sure was starting to find annoyance in the shadowclan leader. Mushroomstar didn't have a problem calling him by his title, the only time he did would be when he hated a cat or didn't think they deserved such title. He meowed in a low tone "And you shall address me as Mushroomstar."
Oh how dull, Fallenstar was suddenly shoving his high ranks to meet Mushroomstar, this wasn't really the time for such things. They needed to move. But the process had already started. Mushroomstar had no high ranks to show. Personally he didn't want to just suddenly choose a deputy out of sheer pressure. Plus he wanted that power. But a medicine cat was needed....Even if they weren't exactly chosen by starclan.
Finally Mushroomstar meowed "I am leader and deputy for the time being. I cannot be expected to chose a deputy in times where I have little information on who all is in my clan. As for medicine cat..." He scanned the cats behind him debating who to randomly choose.
Well, he had a nice little idea. A cat who had helped him make the route out of the city. Claiming she trusted him. A smug crooked look came onto the tom as he lumbered over to Fawnstep, wrapping a paw around her he exclaimed "WHY! None other than the dear Fawnstep! A very useful medicine cat if I do say so myself! She helped me plan a safe route out of the city." He then whispered into Fawnstep's ear "Go along, I'll teach you herbs till we get to a moonpool. Congratulations, hooray." The last two words weren't exactly the happiest but they were said. He let go of her and meowed "That's all needed to know. Can we head out now? We could've done introductions during the walk not while we are standing in the cold!" He hissed impatiently. -

This little girl is capable of murder.
Fawnstep's plan to get through the city had worked out wonderfully that morning, with each and every cat in her clan leaving the alley with food in their belly and hope in their chest. She'd had to drag Peachpaw or of her nest that morning and into the harsh cold of the pre-dawn gloom, but it had to be done, and that's really all that mattered to the molly.
The brown and white she cat now stood just behind Mushroomstar, having made her way from the back where she made sure there were no stragglers at the ends of the ragtag group of cats. She sat with her tail flicking, the long fur swaying and fanning the air around it. She stared with slit eyes as the group she assumed was Shadowclan approached, then mewed a greeting with the rest of her clan as the leader introduced himself as Fallenstar. He then presented his deputy and medicine cat in turn as if going on a roll call. Is he going to name every damn cat in his clan? She hissed internally, worried that this would prompt Mushroomstar to explain how he had no deputy.
It turns out Fawnstep's worry was correct when, just after the Shadowclan medicine cat introduced herself, she'd asked to see Windclan's. Because surely there had to be a medicine cat in a clan, right? A heavy sigh was just about to escape her when her leader swung his head around and scanned his clan. What is he looking for? He knows we don't have a medicine cat.... Mushroomstar approached her nonchalantly and wrapped his paw over her shoulder. Fawnstep stiffened, trying not to show her surprise outwardly as he called out her name. Medicine cat?? He must be insane! Despite the thoughts running through her head a mile a minute, the she cat- on trembling paws- listened to what the tom whispered in her ear and nodded, padding up to Marigoldpelt and introducing herself. The calm demeanor she had before was restored, and her icy blue eyes blinked down at the other she cat. "Hello, Marigoldpelt... My name is Fawnstep, I'm the Windclan medicine cat" 359 words

I hope somebody's gonna hold my tongue.
Owlpaw had tried his best to get some shut eye last night as he knew just how difficult this journey was going to be, but no matter how hard he tried he just couldn't fall asleep! What seemed like a hundred position changes later, Owlpaw had finally given up and settled for just resting his head in his paws and gazing out the mouth of the den, watching as snow continued to fall to the earth. He had finally drifted off to sleep a few hours before Fallenstar awoke his Clan to prepare for the move, leaving Owlpaw tired and grumpy due to his fitful sleep.Luckily for him, Owlpaw was able to stay awake more easily once they started actually moving. The deep snow they trekked through caused him to have to forcefully push himself through, almost like he was wading through a deep muddy bank. Fallenstar had also stationed him near the back of the group with Maplepaw where the two of them had to pay attention and make sure to help any cat who started to fall behind. Being some of the leader's favorite apprentices had its perks, Owlpaw thought. He didn't doubt that Fallenstar trusted him and Maplepaw to do a good job. It was a relatively easy job so far, everyone was keeping up the pace even if a few cats struggled here and there. With a nudge from their clanmate beside them they were able to push themselves to go further. As the sun threatened to crest the mountains, though, Owlpaw could tell that cats were beginning to slow down. Ideally, it would be best to take a break soon and let the weaker cats rest their legs, but the looming twoleg city in the distance made Owlpaw uneasy. The young tom made sure to stay close to Maplepaws side as they approached the first thunderpath . Owlpaw wanted to keep her safe when they entered the city as he knew exactly what to expect inside its walls. He was also helping Maplepaw to carry the young Otterkit, which gave him the perfect excuse to stay close to her side. After about half an hour of dragging Otterkit through the snow, the two apprentices had coaxed the kitten up onto Owlpaws back where he could ride out the rest of their journey in style.Owlpaw glanced around him, taking note of all the cats who formed the back line when- goddamnit, is that Froglegs ? What was he doing back here? Giving Maplepaw a quiet mmrrow to signify he would be right back, Owlpaw took the quick joy through the snow in order to catch up to the tabby feline, being careful as to not jostle Otterkit too much."Hey, what the hell, Froglegs?" Owlpaw hissed at him, trying to make sure he didn't disturb the other cats around them. "I thought you told me you were going to talk to Fallenstar today? Y'know, to kiss and make up and all that?" This time he fixed Froglegs with a glare before jerking his head to the side, suggesting that he should go speak with him already. "We're in the city for god sake, Froglegs, he probably wishes you were by his side. He'll want to make sure you get through safely. Now go on, shoo!" - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ☆ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Owlpaw was grateful when Fallenstar finally came to a stop. Being in the back of the group, it wasn't until he heard some of the murmurings that passed down the line that he stretched his neck enough to see what was happening. "Looks like we found them," Owlpaw meowed to Maplepaw. "I don't know how I feel about traveling with them, can we really trust them?" It was hard to hear what the two groups were saying over the howling wind, but based on all the cats stepping forward to meet Fallenstar, he had to guess the high ranks were introducing themselves. He trusted his leader to get Mushroomstar to agree to travel for what he believed were obvious benefits, and Owlpaw wasn't going to try to convince him otherwise. He'd just... watch from the sidelines and make sure no Windclanner was stepping out of place, that's all! 697 words

i'll sleep when i'm dead, a revolution is waking up in my head Bluepaw was glad to be on the move. Moving meant a promise, a promise of a future. Or the clan's demise. Either way, she wasn't too bothered, but she'd prefer a new territory then death. Bluepaw was known for being a trouble-making brat but she'd been good along the way. She hadn't annoyed anyone... Well, not many people. She thought she'd done well, she had pitched in with helping everyone across the Thunderpath. Even though cats could be blubbering idiots she had held her tongue and just ignored them. She wanted this to go well just as much as anyone and she wasn't about to be the one to ruin it. Being a natural born leader, she headed towards the front of the felines, although kept a good distance away from the leading tom.
For some reason, she couldn't shake the feeling that something-someone was watching her. She could feel the piercing eyes on her shoulders, but whenever she looked behind her she saw nothing of the ordinary. Just Windclan cats. Bluepaw guessed it was just the nerves that bounced around in her stomach. Her limbs felt warm and nimble after trecking around for a little while, her eyes bright.
They were slowing down now, so she stretched onto the tips of her toes, spotting the incoming clan. Bluepaw shuffled back a bit, letting her clan mates keep her semi-hidden from the view of Shadowclan. She doubted Owlpaw had noticed she was missing, they weren't on speaking terms. She didn't want his questions if he spotted her. Then Mushroombelly had said something. She focused on what he had just said. So he didn't trust her? Fine.
How dare he question her loyalty, though? Sure, she hadn't done anything to prove it but neither had she done anything to compromise it (That she believed). Her long tail lashed as she called out, trying to be heard over the wind "If you believe Shadowclan could change our loyalties then you don't trust us enough. If your not careful that'll come back to bite you in the ass" With that she flicked her gaze away, a small smile on her lips.
She straightened her spine, gazing at the arriving clan. Mixed thoughts ran through her, but very few fantasied about joining them. Still, she couldn’t help but look around for Owlpaw. He better be safe. She was faintly aware of Fallenstar blabbering on but she was more focused on finding her friend. Or Hollowdusk. She just wanted them to be safe, then she could stick with her clan and ignore them. Bluepaw smiled sweetly at the 'angel part' before striding towards Mushroombelly, ready to get moving. ”Lead us Mushroombe-star” Her gaze completely innocent as she waited, ignoring this new Medicine Cat.

Everything you want is on the other side of fear.
All things considered, Frostkit was in a good mood. While most cats were dreading the journey to their new home, despite it getting them out of the twoleg city, as it still meant leaving their old territories behind. Windclan had dreamed of being able to go back to their moors after the plague, but alas it was not meant to happen.
Frostkit, while he wasn't ashamed of his Riverclan blood, was ecstatic at being able to leave the territory that had caused him so many nightmares behind. It was true that he had gotten away from the Riverclan camp by joining Windclan, but realizing he'd never have to see even the border of the place his father haunted him was a huge relief. He felt lighter than he had since his early kithood and it was the spring in his step that he needed to get through this journey.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ☆ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Frostkit had slept surprisingly well last night and was ready to go when Mushroomstar called his Clan to gather. As they all grouped up and got ready to leave the city for good, Frostkit had noticed Bluepaw giving him a look of some kind, one that sent a shiver up his spine and got him scooting up the crowd, searching for Mushroomstar by instinct. He did not want a repeat of yesterday with the older apprentice.
The blue-hued tom fell into step behind the Windclan leader as they shuffled out of camp, not even noticing how close he had gotten to him until a clump of snow fell off a tree branch and plummeted to the earth next to him, spooking Frostkit enough that he collided nose-first into Mushroomstars leg. With a stuttered apology, Frostkit backed off from the tom he called brother and instead stuck closer to the warriors who held the front of the line.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ☆ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Frostkit felt like his legs were about to fall off when they came to a stop for the first time. He staggered slightly, falling into the snow for a rest as he watched Mushroomstar gaze out ahead of him. He didn't have long to wonder why they had suddenly stopped as their leader called out to them, explaining the situation and telling them to be on their best behavior. Regretfully pulling himself onto his tired and frozen legs, Frostkit tried to make himself stand as tall as possible. He had to appear to be a strong apprentice for the good of his Clan.
He watched with renewed interest as Fallenstar introduced himself and his high ranks before glancing at Mushroomstar nervously, wondering what he was going to tell the Shadowclan feline. They didn't have any other ranks as far as Frostkit knew, which is why it was even more surprising as Mushroomstar seemed to gravitate towards a certain young molly. Surprise flitted across his face as he announced Fawnstep as the medicine cat. Her? Does Starclan even know her name? She's such a new arrival! Frostkit had a sinking feeling that Starclan hadn't actually chosen her, a feeling that was strengthened when he saw the way her legs trembled as she stood up. He was close enough to see her reaction clearly and decide for himself that something about this just didn't feel right.
This was going to be... interested. Frostkit hoped Mushroomstar knew what he was doing. 554 Words

The journey had been long and it had only just begun. The path was cold and there was no denying that many cats were struggling. However, despite the obstacles that the felines faced, both internal and external, Shadowclan had a knack for surviving. It was a pity that Thunderclan and Riverclan had fallen victim to a frosty doom, though some cats did find themselves lucky. For example, Sabletuft had the pleasure of finding sweet Honeypaw desperately sprawled out in the ivory blanket of snow. Of course the molly had to help the apprentice. Now they were here. Face to face with Windclan.
As they approached the temporary city-dwellers, Sabletuft couldn’t help but place herself instinctively between Honeypaw and the ugly brute known as Mushroomstar. His face sure looks gnarly... Sabletuft scrunched up her berry nose but almost immediately reprimanded herself for being quick to judge. The site of the other clan made her uneasy. Many of the cats seemed lost, despite their newfound leadership. Well, I suppose we are all a bit lost, yet, that explanation didn’t seem to be enough for the chestnut hues she-cat. Watching as her leader sat himself, Sabletuft followed suit. She shook out her fluffy pelt and observed the exchange. It was only a few moments before she remarked how much Fallenstar was actually speaking. Sure, formalities were important, but survival was even more so. With a quick glance around, she got the feeling that the other cats were thinking the same thing. Her paws began to itch with anxiety — let’s gooooooooo — she groaned inwardly.
No matter how nervous Sabletuft, she managed to keep a pleasant smile laced upon her maw. It seemed as if both clans were on edge and she decided there needed to be atleast one positive aura as they traveled. “How lovely,” she purred to no one in particular, “it will be so nice to get to know one another as we travel. It will surely pass the time.” Glancing down at Honeypaw, she nudged her gently and whispered, “More bodies means more warmth. Let’s have you try and stick to the middle of the group so you don’t catch frost bite.” It had been a few days but she still wasn’t positive that Honeypaw had fully recovered from when Sabletuft originally found her. It seemed obvious that she wouldn’t be completely better until they found their new home, but the molly wanted to make sure her new friend was atleast in a stable state. She had known the apprentice for only a short amount of time, yet, Honeypaw already felt like a sister.

death doesn't discriminate
Fern had gone unnoticed, so far. She had slunk in a few nights prior to them leaving and had just skulked around with the other former rogues. She didn't know how long her unquestoned prescence would stay unquestoned and was fine with staying unnoticed. Unless a reason to stay arose, she planned to shift over to Shadowclan. She was just using Windclan as a cover, for now. She had nothing against Windclan, of course, she just wanted to go home.
The fluffy molly had followed the clan has they made the treck to the rendezvous place, doing her best to stay unnoticed. She had seen her foster sister a few times and didn't want her to know that Fern was here. She knew just how livid her sister would be when she went to Shadowclan and befriended the cats they knew as kits. Bluepaw was going to suffer a long time, Fern had no reason to leave even when she completed her goal. Fern despised her foster sister and seeing her walk with the older felines, her hips swaying in a haughty gait she couldn't help but stare. She guessed her sister felt her hostile cage and kept glancing over her shoulder. Fern was forced to drop back to the last few cats.
As the orange tom; who she had decided was the leader, addressed the clan, her peachy ears perked up. She didn't really listen to his words, just the way he glanced at Bluepaw. Did he know her? She felt sorry for him if he did. Either way, she might be able to ask him later on in the journey but maybe not. Straining her ears to hear beyond the wind she caught names like Mushroomstar, Marigoldpelt, Fawnstep. It was like biting into a juicy vole, her tongue exploding in bursts of colourful taste, as she mouthed the names. She had long ago shed her clan name and these names bought back so many memories.
She couldn't help but skip to the side, away from the other felines. She had a clear view at the felines on the other side, and her lips parted, a happy sigh floating out. She was a stride away from home.

Vipernose ; Sass Queen of ShadowClan "I thought nothing good would ever happen to me - that I was in hell after it froze over, thawed, and then burnt to the ground." The tabby looked ahead as they traveled, trying not to think of her home that she had left behind. She missed the ShadowClan camp already, and they hadn’t even been walking for very long. She watched her paws as the moved, taking a new interest in them. Why did it have to come to this? Just as she thought StarClan was doing her a favor in being chosen as deputy, her whole life turned impossibly farther upside down. The loss of her mother, sister, and two daughters was more than enough for her, but apparently her ancestors didn’t think so. She knew that she needed to have faith in the cats of Silverpelt, but she couldn’t seem to even hold a belief in them. All those cats who said that they had been blessed by StarClan had just gotten lucky in Vipernose’s eyes. No one was blessed. Those cats just so happened to lead a better life than hers.
The newly appointed deputy scowled at her snow-covered paws, trying to make sense of Fallenstar’s decision. Why did he choose me? she thought. Why not Froglegs… The cat who has won his affections? Vipernose shook her head, lots of things in her life had never made sense. She could feel many eyes upon her back, and it only made her more uncomfortable and self-conscious. She held her head a little higher, but her tail stayed where it was - dragging through the white powder that covered her home.
Vipernose looked up, her amber eyes training on the new leader of ShadowClan. She opened her mouth to ask him what he saw in her when he came to an abrupt stop. Her mouth slowly closed as a foul smell washed over her senses. It smelled like the city, but there was a hidden and familiar smell behind the stronger one… WindClan! Had they finally found who they had been looking for?
She looked ahead of them and recognized the feline in the lead. It was Mushroombelly. He had once been ShadowClan’s medicine cat, but the tornado had thrown him from the territory and he had ended up finding and resurrecting WindClan. But Vipernose had thought that Whitestar was the leader of the cats of the moorland… What had happened to the white tom? Fallenstar answered her question as he spoke to the big formerly-ShadowClan tom in front of them, and her eyes narrowed.
A kitty-brow raised above an amber eye as Fallenstar began to give introductions. Why was he doing this now? Didn’t he have the whole journey to do that? Maybe the ShadowClan leader was just trying to show off… Whatever it was that her leader was trying to do, Vipernose didn’t complain. The molly graciously but gingerly stepped forward next to Fallenstar as he called her name. She bowed her head in greeting and looked into Mushroombelly’s eyes. “I am honored to present myself as deputy of ShadowClan,” she meowed loud enough for the tom to hear. “It is a great surprise to see you again, Mushroombelly. You are looking good considering the terrible living conditions of this leaf-bare.” It was as if she was taunting him for leaving ShadowClan… That it was all his fault that he betrayed his clan. Vipernose wasn’t exactly glaring, but something in her gaze told the WindClanners that she wouldn’t have any of their nonsense on this journey.
She padded backwards to her former spot at Fallenstar’s flank and listened to the clans’ conversation. So Mushroombelly was the leader of WindClan once again… And their new medicine cat was Fawnstep. Vipernose had never met nor heard about this she-cat, and she looked rather surprised when Mushroomstar threw his paw around her neck. The silver tabby’s ears pricked up as she noticed the new WindClan leader whispering something in the brown and white feline’s ear. She gave Fallenstar a questioning look, but he wasn’t looking at her. She frowned and waited for the reunion to be over so that they could just get on with it. Why waste their energy trying to be warm while sitting stationary when they could be using their valuable time getting to their new home? Why waste their consciousness doing nothing and making no progress when two clans’ lives were on the line? Why waste their extremely precious lives just sitting here when she had a thousand questions to ask Fallenstar?
Vipernose grunted; no one was blessed.

Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.
Peachpaw had barely slept last night, but not for the reason you might be expecting. Truly, she was excited! Being a city born cat, Peachpaw had yet to get the real Clan experience since Whitedream , bless his soul, accepted her into Windclan a few months prior to his downfall. She was finally going to have her name match her new lifestyle and she couldn't wait! How was she supposed to contain this much excitement?!When she had finally managed to drift off, she only got a few hours of sleep before Fawnstep was looming over her, hissing in her ear to Wake up already! before Mushroomstar left without them. Feining ignorance, Peachpaw had continued her game of pretending to be lost to the world until her sister actually started to drag her out of the cardboard box they were sleeping in. With a giggle, Peachpaw finally gave in and rose to her feet, wishing Fawnstep a cheerful Good morning! before trotting past her and falling into line behind her Clan.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ☆ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Despite not formally making up to her sister yet, the two mollies still trekked through the city side-by-side. It was only natural, Peachpaw could remember spending every day of her life this way since the day she was born. The young she-cat seemed too excited for her paws to keep up with her, a small spring in her step that almost had her tripping over something unnoticeable under the thick layer of snow. After a couple of glares from her sister with the suggestion that she settle down, Peachpaw finally complied and did her best to bottle up her excitement and walk calmly beside her sister. This continued on with Peachpaw mindlessly counting her steps and getting lost in her surroundings until the group came to a halt. Being closer to the front of the group, Peachpaw got to peer around the cat in front of her and spot the Shadowclanners cresting over the hill.It was them! It was really them! Peachpaw was starting to think they wouldn't find them, but now they were here! She had sooo many questions she wanted to ask the Shadowclan cats, but she had to wait until the leaders had formally introduced everyone, and it was taking forever! At least Mushroomstar would only have to introduce himself, after all, Windclan didn't have-Wait, why was he coming over here? Peachpaw had to practically dodge out of his way not to get smacked in the face by his paw as he slung it around his sister's shoulders. Narrowing her eyes slightly as she fixed them on Mushroomstars smug face, Peachpaw was preparing to question him when he announced something no cat was expecting.Fawnstep... as medicine cat?! No way! There's no way that was true! Fawnstep would have told her if she got another dream from Starclan! Would she really have told Mushroomstar before her own sister? Ohh, this wasn't going to end well. Peachpaw felt as her ears flattened against her head as she glared daggers at the two high ranks, a frown etched onto her face.Just you wait until this is over, Fawnstep. You have some questions to answer. 528 Words

Froglegs had slept alone the night before the journey, just like all the previous nights since Fallenstar announced his deputy. But this night was different. Since the talk with Owlpaw, Fallenstar was the only thing on his mind. During the night, his mind would drift to Fallenstar, and the thoughts weren't negative for once. They were filled with longing, and regret and anger. Anger at himself. Not at Fallenstar.
Froglegs was angry with himself because he was always so quick to make a mountain out of a molehill. The smallest things ticked him off when he didn't get his way... Maybe it was better for him to stay a loyal warrior. In no way, shape, or form would he be the best fit for the deputy position with this attitude. He was so immature.
His slumber was often disturbed by fits of coughing and hacking. His frail body shook with each cough. For a straight hour in the middle of the night, coughs would keep coming and it hurt worse with each one. When they subsided he drifted off to sleep, only having to be woken up an hour later before the sun had even risen yet. So Froglegs was absolutely miserable. The only thing that was keeping him alive was the scraps of a mole he shared with Owlpaw the day before.
When on their journey, Froglegs often found himself extending his neck to try and see Fallenfox at the front of the crowd. Of course, that was no use to him considering how far back he was. His coughing would frequently slow him down, making him have to run to catch up with the cats.
For what felt like an eternity of walking, they finally arrived at the city. Froglegs had been here a couple of times before, once where he met Owlpaw, previously named Tao. And now, in the city, the tom came up to him, was by his side. The tom cut his eyes to Owlpaw.
Froglegs sighed. He knew he was right. There was no more avoiding him. He was his mate, after all! As much as he hates to admit it, Froglegs felt weird not being by Fallenfox's side. Before Shadowclan came to a stop, the tabby tom hurried to the front of the crowd, slowing down with hesitation as he looked at Fallenfox. He shook his head to clear his thoughts and came up beside his flank, his long, thick tail grazing his haunches comfortingly. He looked at Fallenfox, his eyes softening before he looked at the clan before him. Well, what was left of the clan, anyway. The size was pitiful indeed, but it came to no surprise.
The new tone the leader took was something Froglegs would have never thought Fallenfox could take on. It was new and Froglegs liked it. It held a great power in it, and he always knew power suited him. The cold pavement was starting to cause his paws to ache, but he stood with his head held high and his tired eyes narrowed. 508 words

IF YOU WERE DROWNING AT SEA i'd give you my lungs so you can breath
When he had first woken up to the clan drifting out of the camp, he had thought that would be the perfect time to go find his mum! He didn’t trust them enough to go with them, though, so he’d just wander away. A tiny voice in his head was telling him to stay with them but he simply puffed out his chest and ignored them. He had gotten his strength up since arriving in camp a-and he was sure that his mummy would be ready for him.
His perfect plan did end up having a major problem. Maplepaw and Owlpaw. He knew she had been charged with looking after him but couldn’t she just forget about him? A scowl twisted onto his soft features as he stomped along with them, deciding it was too much effort to evade them. He was ready for this long journey.
Oh, it was long indeed! After a short while of walking Otterkit’s legs started aching and he was drawing in large, unsteady breaths. The deep inhaling tickled the back of his throat, causing him to start coughing. Couldn’t anything go right today? The violent movement made his eyes water and it stung like fox du- Otterkit, no! You can’t start swearing like a savage, mummy would be super angry That firm voice he didn’t ignore and quickly tried to shut down all the horrid thoughts in his head.
It hadn’t taken much to convince him to ride on Owlpaw’s back – At first, he’d been all huffy and mad but his pain outweighed his sour feelings. As he got onto the toms back he snuggled into his fur, splaying out to keep his weight balanced… Being so high up he felt a sense of importance. Why would Owlpaw let him on his back, unless something important was going to happen? Something important like reuniting with his mum! Yes, oh yes! He understood now.
His frown then turned upside down, his eyes twinkling happily. Even in the cold he couldn’t help but feel a warm tingle. These cats weren’t that bad after all, where they? His attention went back to the cat he was snuggled into, as they turned around.
"O-owlpaw, I t-think you’re going the wrong way” He murmured quietly; maybe not that quietly because his muzzle was right by Owlpaw’s ear. When they stopped at another cat he let out a knowing ohh. He understood now. He listened in on their conversation, innocently of course and even if he didn’t understand the context he heard this foreign word… hell He mouthed the word over and over again before letting out a yelp.
”You shouldn’t swear Owlpaw, Starclan will curse you” His voice was clearer now, he was confident that he was right and Owlpaw was wrong. As the tom headed back to Maplepaw he squeezed his eyes tight. Let mama find him. Leaning forward he whispered into Owlpaw’s ear
”It’s alright, I know that we are meeting my mummy here, you don’t need to keep it a secret any longer” As he whispered those words he realized he needed to see his mum now and couldn't wait for her. Slipping down his rump, a puff of snow floated into the air as he hit the ground. He sat there for a moment, stunned with cold before he shook his body. Trying to push through the icy substance he desperately tried to scramble to the legs of the nearest cat, knowing if he made it his caregivers wouldn't be able to grab him.
